The Shepherd School started in late 2004 to teach firearm skills to civilians, as our training and experience grew, so did our mission.  While we teach the handgun carry permit course and instruct armed security officers, our primary firearm instruction mission is to train new trainers.  So while we can and do occasionally give firearm classes, for shooters, those are normally given to private groups of 3 or more.

Due to downsizing economies and the impact that has on household preparedness, we are moving toward giving more preparedness, urban homesteading, and civilian disaster recovery courses.  We can provide workshops and speak to groups on disaster preparedness, firearm safety, or instructional methodology if requested.

While no man is an island, it is our personal and professional goal to become as self-reliant as possible by using knowledge and skill acquisition instead of being gear heavy. Basically we believe proper techniques are more valuable that pretty tools.

Our owner grew up with an interest in personal survival skills and acquired an extensive library of prepper and how-to books and could quote entire passages, but did not ever actually try to DO any of the things listed.  Now we spend our time acquiring  the skills.  We make sure we can walk the walk as well as we talk it.

We view prepping as a lifestyle, its a hobby and a source of confidence.  We don’t hide in a bunker waiting for TEOTWAWKI or a SHTF situation.  Researching and completing these self reliance projects open whole new worlds for us.  We meet smart and interesting people, gain skills, and create a resilient and problem resistant lifestyle all at the same time.  We think it is fun to be self sufficient.

We have found that a lifestyle built on emergency preparedness to be as valuable as well as fun. At the end of a hard day building something, we can take pride in our new skills, take ownership in equipment we understand because we built it, and create capabilities we could not afford otherwise.  Besides that, some of our food storage recipes are even pretty tasty…

Thanks for spending time online with us.
