No one really knows how knights actually fought with swords, most of what is taught today is guesswork and common sense gained from studying old books like the Medieval Sword Manual below.
I would hope that the world would never devolve to the point where we would need to know sword combat, however, I also believe that if more people carried and used swords then we would live in a more polite society….
As American author Robert E, Howard said, “Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing.” Working in a prison causes me to know this quote to be true.
Inmates are quite polite to each other, not the please and thank you politeness your momma taught you, but the my rights end where yours begin kind of politeness where people watch what they say and do so as not to offend unknowingly. We need more of that.
And in the event of a global society ending apocalypse, if we ever do go Mad Max, then the ability to fight with a long sword may be useful when the Ammo runs out…..
