The PDF link below opens a PDF from the CD3WD set by Alex Weir. This document is The Backyard Dairy Book.
The book below is designed to give you the basics to start your own backyard dairy and take back some independence in food production.
I have tried my hand at backyard dairy goats, and found it to be a pleasurable activity. Cheese made from animals you raised tastes better, and you know exactly where it comes from.
In a backyard dairy, you invest time, but you gain control. I know what my animals eat, how they are treated, and how they are medicated when ill.
Granted, this all takes time, and it is not for everyone, but reading the Backyard Dairy Book before committing to buying goats or cows will make it easier if you do decide to go the route of making your own milk.
I cannot tell you how much I appreciate the work of the late Alex Weir, I just wish all of his information on the CD3WD set was in PDF format, or that I was smart enough to get it to work on wordpress.
