A Case for Survival Deep Underground is an old cold war era unclassified document from the Defense Documentation Center. It makes the argument that military capability to survive large scale attacks is possible by using a practical amount of overhead cover.
A Case for Survival Deep Underground contains some useful charts, even if the idea is not new.
What is interesting is the extent in which out Government has created underground bunker systems for the protection of our leadership both political, military, and emergency response.
This is an interesting read, but don’t expect a huge amount of detail, as it was written to be published in the Air Force Civil Engineer as an article. It was not written as a manual or to be doctrine.
It is footnoted, and the documents used to create it do have some more detailed information.
