When talking about the survival benefits of alternative construction – particularly earthships, rammed earth, cob, or adobe – basically anything using a mass of earth I tend to cite this document, Information on Adobe Compounds for Fast Track to the Front Line. Basically in Afghanistan, the extended families live in adobe walled compounds, and we found that the walls of dried earth are remarkably strong.
The British military had a problem breaching the walls, most things were ineffective, and the explosives that were tended to be TOO effective – basically destroying everything. So to search for a solution, they put out a request for commercial solutions. This document describes the strength of adobe from a survival standpoint.
