Today I wanted to share a guest post that describes my favorite quick meal.
I have made my own simple and delicious meals at home several times and they take only 15 to 20 minutes. There are plenty of dishes that do not consume your time that much.
One of them is the very classic Spaghetti Carbonara which I will be presenting to you in this post.

Which ingredients do you need?
You can quickly stop by one supermarket and get all the following ingredients:
- 350g spaghetti
- 100g bacon thickly sliced (you can add more if you are a bacon lover)
- 50g freshly grated Pecorino cheese
- 50g freshly grated Parmesan cheese
- 3 chicken eggs
- 2 plump garlic cloves, peeled and chopped
- 50 g unsalted butter
- Maldon salt
- Freshly black pepper (one or two tablespoons)
Step by step instructions
Now, we move on to the most exciting stage – cooking!!!
Are you ready? Let’s do it together!
Step 1: Slice the bacon, ideally into pieces (1cm square). The size of the bacon is just for the aesthetic purpose; you might like to cut it in your way. It does not matter in term of the taste or the texture.
Step 2: Bring water to boil the spaghetti: Use a cup to measure. The ratio should be 1:2 – meaning with 350 gram of spaghetti, you should use 700ml water. I used to put a bunch of salt in the water as it makes the pasta tastier.
Step 3: Add the spaghetti when the water boils: Dip the pasta in the pot and wait until it is perfectly done. I usually leave it for eight minutes. However, depending on how well you want your pasta to be cooked, you might wait longer or reduce the time. I recommend you to try a small piece to see whether it is suitable for your taste and decide.
Step 4: Meanwhile, fry the crushed garlic cloves: While waiting for the spaghetti to be done, you can prepare other ingredients. Firstly, use a frying pan, turn on medium to high heat. Put in a decent amount of olive oil. Then, add the garlic and fry it for 30 seconds (you might supplement some chopped onion if you like).
Step 5: Cook the bacon: When the garlic is done, add the raw bacon, which you already cut and cook it in two minutes. The soft and slightly browned bacon will have the perfect taste. To have the bacon ready at the same time the pasta is completed, I often fry it in 6 minutes.
Be careful, you do not want your bacon to burn. While it is being cooked, you might need to lower the heat.
Step 6: Drain the spaghetti: When it is finished, quickly and carefully take the pasta out of the cooking pot. You may need a filter to separate the spaghetti from the water. After draining the pasta, I’d like to add some olive oil. That can keep the spaghetti not too sticky at the same time enhance a bit of cheesy flavor to the course.
Step 7: Mix all the finished ingredients: Having completed the spaghetti, the bacon must also be done. Using the same frying pan, add the spaghetti and stir it until all the ingredients are perfectly integrated.
Step 8: Cook the eggs: Horary!!! We are almost done. Now beat the three chicken eggs and put it in the mixture. Then, stir it thoroughly until it mixes perfectly with other ingredients.
Step 9: Melt the cheeses: In order to get the interesting cheesy taste, I’d like to mix the Parmesan and Pecorino cheese. Put those cheeses into the mixture and stir it until all the cheese melt and mix with other components. Do not forget to spare some Pecorino for decorating the dish afterward.
I usually put 60ml of additional cream to richen the greasy taste. However, many people do not like it. If you are a cream lover like me, you might consider putting it, since the taste is stronger.
Step 10: Add supplementary ingredients: Finally, we are in the last step. You only need to add other ingredients which you like such as pepper, flat-leaf parsley. You can turn off the heat now and put in those spices. Normally I use one table spoon of pepper, but if you like it, you can use extra amount.
I also put two table spoon of the chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley, since my younger sister loves its taste. This ingredient will not only flavor to the dish but also enhance its aesthetic with the beautiful green color.
And remember to sprinkle some beautiful white cheese over the spaghetti to have a delicious and eye-catching meal.
Step 11: Serve immediately: So far so good! Last but not least, to ensure the premium quality of the dish, I recommend you to serve it immediately. And now, my favorite step – enjoying the perfect meal of spaghetti carbonara!
Some thoughts about this recipe: Personally, this is one of my favorite pasta ever. Although it is a traditional Italian course, you can mostly find it in many normal restaurants. I am sure, this cheesy and tasty meal will conquer the pickiest eater in your family.
